Saving the American Middle Class

Obama has come out with new proposals to save the United States’ hard-pressed Middle Class, including new legislation affecting retirement plans, loans for education, and child-care assistance. Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer (South Carolina) likened poor people seeking government assistance to stray animals. Granted, there may be a screw lose or just a particularly unintelligent PR team, as his apology was not to the children he likened to stray animals, nor to people on welfare or other government assistance, but rather apologized for offending animals and people who love them. Anyway…

As a nation, we need to decide our position on government assistance, namely how far it goes and where it ends. The most recent proposals by President Obama look beneficial to social democrats like myself, but they beg the question: how much do we care about “saving” America’s Middle Class?
